Nowhere makes my heart skip a beat like Cape Town. Of course with Valentine’s Day on the horizon now is the time of year to see everything through rose-colored glasses.
So ladies, grab your boyfriend or girlfriend and head out to Cape Town’s most scenic and exciting places.
Here are the most romantic things to do in my town.
Visit the Penguins at Boulders Beach
Boulders Beach is a special place because you can see penguins walking down the sand.
Pack a picnic and plan a day trip to Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach. It costs about R75/ $6 USD to get into the beach but it is well worth the small price of admission.
Penguins mate for life, so take notes!
Romantic Picnic at Boschendal
This 300-year-old farm in the Franschhoek Valley is a perfect place to spend a sunny day outdoors. Explore the beautiful hiking paths around Boschendal by horseback or bicycle then dive into the dam for a swim. The wine and food here are delicious.
Before you go, reserve a picnic of fresh farm produce and world class wine.
Visit Cape Point Vineyards, Noordhoek
Another ideal picnic spot. If you plan to order your meal from Cape Point Vineyards, pre-order it well ahead of time to ensure that your food will be ready for you when you are. You can expect to spend the day stretched out on the lawn taking in views of the ocean.
Afternoon Tea at La Residence
A five-star property in Franschhoek is located on a charming wine estate. During your stay, make a reservation for afternoon tea and choose from quiches croissants and other desserts. Prepare to indulge.
Stay a Night at Tintswalo
This is my favorite escape in Cape Town! They have ultra romantic very private bungalows by the sea. It’s just thirty minutes from Cape Town, but it feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
You will remember this place forever. This is the only place you can see wildlife like this.
Sunrise Hike Up Lion’s Head
This is a good hike for adventurers. This is one of the best views in South Africa. Wear hiking shoes, bring water, and be prepared for a workout!

Bicycle Ride Seapoint
This is my hood. I love our promenade and you can bicycle on the sidewalk along the entire length of the sea board from Clifton all the way to Sea Point.
Pink Flamingo Rooftop Cinema
I love the rooftop garden bar at the Grand Daddy Hotel any day of the week, but it’s especially cool to be there on cinema nights when they set up a big-screen TV among vintage Airstream trailers. You can get a picnic basket (vegetarian options included) with food and seating, so plan on having an Look here.
Check the schedule to see when they have a Monday night showing and check their schedule for other screening times.
Sunset Boat Cruise From the V&A
It’s better to cruise the beautiful harbor in Cape Town at sunset, with views of Table Mountain and Cape Town. You will see the sun set over the ocean while you sip champagne.
Watch a Show at the Baxter Theatre
The Baxter Theatre has something for everyone. There are comedies and performances, as well as a great place to get a dose of local Cape Town.
Take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain.
Visit Table Mountain anytime, but sunset is especially beautiful from the top. Buy tickets in advance and check the website for current conditions.
The weather at the top of the mountain can often be totally different from the bottom of the mountain, with wind and inclement weather often shutting down operations. You should come prepared.
Go On a Helicopter Ride
It is not quite as scary when you have somewhere to hold your sweaty hand! As someone who is afraid of heights trust me a helicopter ride over Cape Town is so worth it.
Get a Couples Massage at 12 Apostles
Sometimes just doing nothing can be a very satisfying experience. For the ultimate day of relaxation and pampering, you should go to The 12 Apostles Hotel Spa. I would highly recommend the “Outdoor Bliss” package for couples!
This massage includes a 2-hour outdoor gazebo treatment, which involves Swedish massage, plus sparkling wine and lunch.
